Dalkey Island Picnic
We had a hugely enjoyable trip to Dalkey Island on Sunday (July 23'rd). After our previously failed attempt, we had better weather with sunshine and a reasonable wind. Nigel skippered the Ruffian, while the full SID dinghy fleet sailed (6 boats) + Niamh & Ralph's Laser 2, while Damien and Sidney manned the rescue boat. We managed to get all 22 day trippers ashore, the rescue boat ferrying the Ruffian crew, while we pulled up the dinghies on the little beach facing Collymore pier. Martina & Nicola had been busy stocking up on provisions all morning, so we feasted on a four course meal and then spent an hour exploring the island. Luckily the Ruffian anchor managed to hold firm in the channel so after a little work out lifting the dinghies back to the water we sailed for home on the rising tide.

Thanks to everybody involved in organising sailing, food etc
Ruffian Nationals
Ruffin'It is entered in the Ruffian Nationals taking place in the Royal St. George this weekend. There will be three days of racing. After successfully competing in the recent regattas people have got a taste for big boat racing.
If you are in Dun Laoghaire why not call in to the George for the apres sail and see how our crew is getting on.
Good luck to everybody taking part.
T-Shirts 2006
The 2006 T-Shirts (and hats) have arrived. (there is some delay with the ladies). Again Eamonn has done a fantastic job in organizing. Check out our model straight from the Paris catwalk... http://sailingindublin.ie/tshirts.html
Last year Brenda had the most exotic backdrop with the Taj Mahal, while Damien's 2005 shirt racked up a record number of air miles on its world tour. I'm sure you can do better in 2006. Please send me a picture from you travels for our gallery.
If you have not ordered a T-Shirt Eamonn may have one or two spares but you would need to hurry as most were snapped up last weekend.
Collanmore Weekend
There will be a trip to Collanmore on the first weekend in September (1'st-3'rd). There are loads of sailing options with everything from beginners dinghy sailing to Windsurfing, Laser-1's Hobie cats, Laser Vagos. You will need to book early to avail of the SID discount.
Please let Brenda know if you interested.
Surfdock Nightout
Here some pictures of the recent Surfdock outing... http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/cearbhalld/album?.dir=/64b0re2 Unfortunately the wind was a bit light for windsurfing, but that didn't help anybody trying to stay upright on a surf bike. After a good wetting we had a BBQ on the quay before we retired to the aptly named "Yacht" in Ringsend for refreshments.
Thanks to Nicola for organizing.
Training
You can claim a single rebate of 50 euros on you membership if you attend any training course e.g. Powerboat, VHF cert, any weeklong Glenans courses.
Every member of the club should have a powerboat certificate.
If there is any area that you are interested in that we might be able to organize it as a group, please let me know. There is always more to learn in any aspect of sailing, and with SID you have a great opportunity to practice new skills.
BBQ
Martina is hosting a BBQ in Monkstown on Saturday evening (29'th). There still lots of penguins left from Dalkey to be consumed. It should be a tad warmer than last December’s BBQ when Santa herself arrived http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/michelsmartina/album?.dir=/8707
There will be dinghy sailing in the afternoon if you want to make it a full day out.
For
dinghy sailing, contact Chris. For BBQ contact Martina.
