Christmas Party

For this years Christmas party we'll be turning japanese at the Ukio bar in Exchequer St. It will be on Thursday December 14'th. If you plan to attend please let Angela know (if you haven't done so already) as space is limited.

Boat Purchase

The was a club meeting in the NYC to discuss lottery assisted cruising boat purchase plans. There was agreement in principal that we should pursue this. We will need people to commit to cruising on the boat or this will not be a viable proposition. A working group was formed and will be taking this forward.

Club Survey - Tell us what you want

We have put together of survey of members views to help in deciding how we proceed with boat purchase plan, to help in creating a strategic plan for the club, and to help in putting together an application for lottery funding this year.

This is your opportunity to make your opinions known. The more people who contribute, the more value this process has.

You can complete this online, Gary will be sending on details in the next day or two.

There's even a free drink at the Christmas party for everybody who completes this.

Frostbites

The frostbites kicked off on Sunday (Nov 5). Best SID crew were Sidney and Robin who finished 4'th in a Magno http://sailingindublin.ie/frostbite/Frostbite06.html

To date we have 18 members signed up and all six dinghies entered. If you want to take part please contact Colm. We will have two other boats flying the SID burgee (Niamh & Ralph's Laser-2 and Tina's IDRA) so we expecting a record harvest of mugs for the club. Best of luck to everybody taking part.

There was a maintenance day on Sunday October 22'ond to get the boats ready. Thanks to everybody involved. Wyn is co-ordinating dinghy maintenance for the winter so please keep Wyn informed of anything that needs attention, or any issues that you have resolved.

Ruffian Lift-Out

The Ruffiian liftout will take place this week. We need some people to come to the Coal Harbour to help.  There are also a number of jobs that need to be done on the boat both now and during the winter. Please let Peter know if you can oblige.

Instructor Pre-Assessment

A number of members completed the ISA instructor pre-assessment last month. This is an assessment of you sailing skills and knowledge and is a pre-requisite to doing the ISA instructor training.

Brenda, Chris, James, Nicola, Sheenagh & Wyn took the dinghy assessment in Collanmore, while Robert completed the keelboat assessment in Baltimore. Everybody got through successfully and I'm sure learned a lot along the way. I hope you all go on a do the Instructor training next year. I'll be expecting expert coaching the next time I'm in the Coal Harbour.

Here's a view of the weekend from our Western correspondent (James)...

It has been reported that a number of SID sailors were seen sitting quietly in the corner of the Collanmore bar practicing rope-work late on a Saturday night without a pint in sight! This was not a Mayo mirage but six of our dingy sailors immersed in the first stage of becoming ISA level 3 instructors. Over the weekend their sailing skills and theory were tested under the watchful eyes of three-time Irish windsurfing champion Noelle Doran. All returned to the mainland bruised and weathered but without doubt greatly improved sailors. Weather conditions proved too demanding to complete the dreaded rudderless sailing, but the six will return in early November to complete this final stage of assessment.
