SID Dinghy Regatta
The rescheduled annual SID dinghy regatta took place on Sunday September 23. The forecast was for strong winds, but as these failed to materialize, racing went ahead in the inner harbour with the race officers keeping a close eye on the weather.

Karina and Wyn (with a little help from Martina) dominated proceedings, recovering from an early disqualification with three aces to take the over all honours.

The committee boat (which seemed to be permanently attached to the starting line) was crewed by Bryan, Sheenagh and Martina.

The crews retired to the Purty Kitchen for the deliberations of the protest committee, prize giving and a celebratory lemonade.

Thanks to Sheenagh and her assistants Nicola and Martina for organizing.

Collanmore Regatta
Congratulations to Brenda who took home the much coveted Deadly Buzz Cup winning the Round Collanmore Island race last Sunday. There were seven SID members Brenda, Cearbhall, Jane, Martina,  Nigel, Sheenagh & Wyn flying the club burgee, and filling four of the top six places, but unfortunately we could not catch Cristelle who was the overall winner. All the racing was in Picos with a fleet of sixteen boats and a mixture of normal course racing, match racing and long distance events.

DBSC Racing

Congratulations to Sheenagh and Wyn who scored a first victory for SID in the DBSC series with a win in the PY class on September 22. The series is now completed for this year, which can only mean it's time for the....

Frostbites
The frostbite winter dinghy racing series will start at the end of this month. This is a great way to get out sailing at this time of year and a lot of fun. If you've never raced a dinghy before, this is a great introduction. The emphasis is very much on participation.

Racing takes place each Sunday untill March. We typically meet up at 12:00 and would be finished around 3.00. You don't have to take part every week, just let the organizer know in advance which weekends you'd like to sail.. If you take part, you will be an honorary member of the DMYC for the day, so you can use their showers & changing facilities.

You don't have to be an olympic champion or rules expert to take part Anybody who has dinghy sailed this year can (and should) take part. No previous racing experience is required. This is the best sailing you will get all year.

Let me know if you have any questions, or talk to any of the people who took part last year. http://sailingindublin.ie/frostbite.shtml

Please contact Nicola if you are interested.

Also, there will be a meeting this month to get things organized and provide information for anybody who hasn't raced before. Please feel free come along even if you are not certain of taking part.

Weekend Sailing
Weekend Ruffian sailing continues until the end of October, and Sunday dinghy sailing a normal. Watch email for details.

Instructor Pre-assessment

Good luck to everybody doing the dinghy instructor pre-assessment next weekend. I've heard only good reports of Noelle's bootcamps. It's great to see members of the club taking it to the next level.

Bank Holiday - Glenans

October 26-29 is the October bank holiday weekend. There will be the usual fancy dress party weekends in both Glenans bases in Collanmore and Baltimore (...there may even be a little sailing thrown in). There is normally a full house so contact office now if you are interested.
